Lymphedema
What is Lymphedema?
Lymphedema is a chronic condition of localized fluid retention and tissue swelling caused by a compromised lymphatic system. It can be primary (congenital) or secondary (acquired) for example cancer, radiation therapies, infections, vascular or inflammatory diseases. It frequently occurs in the arms and legs but can also develop in the groin or head/neck regions. It may cause discomfort, reduced function, impaired mobility and recurrent infection.
Warning signs of Lymphedema include:
Full/heavy feeling in the arms or legs
Persistent swelling
Skin tightness
Compromised flexibility in the limbs
Treating Lymphedema
Our 4 step program includes:
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
It is a light, gentle stretching massage that helps to promote the movement of lymphatic fluid out of the swollen limb. It focuses on the lymph vessels to help the flow of lymphatic fluid.Compression Therapy (Lymph Press)
Lympha press is the only pneumatic compression therapy system that stimulates the lymphatics in Lymphedema affected extremities.Specialized Lymphedema Exercises
Exercises make muscles work which increases the flow of lymph fluid and helps to move it away from the swollen area.JOBST Compression Stockings
