Pre and Post Operative Rehab
What is Pre-Op Rehabilitation?
Pre surgical rehab (prehab) is vital to positive outcomes before and after surgery. Having full range of motion and good strength around your knee and hip before surgery will result in better surgical outcomes and may speed up your post surgical recovery time.
Our physiotherapists will be happy to book an appointment with you to determine a baseline of information about your general state of health and abilities, muscle strength, functional mobility, and much more. We will also assess your possible need for safety equipment at home, we will assist you in pain management, teach you how to use assistive devices (cane, crutches, walker) and how to identify and prevent possible complications after your surgery.
Prehab Helps
Prepare you mentally for the surgery and what to expect afterwards
Reduce risks and complications during and after surgery (eg. blood clots, etc.)
Alleviate pain and inflammation
Learn the exercises that you’ll perform after the surgery
Facilitate a quick recovery so you can resume your activities
Strengthen muscles around the affected joint
Enhance overall fitness, strength and health
What is Post-Operative Rehabilitation?
Post operative rehabilitation is necessary to aid in a fast and successful recovery. Depending on the type of surgery you receive, it is possible to start post-operative rehabilitation as early as a few hours to a few days after your operation. Post surgical rehab is useful for but not limited to the surgeries performed on the hips, wrist, spine, neck, shoulder, knee and overall musculoskeletal system.
